Businessman Jimmy Wanjigi has been charged at the Nyeri Law Courts for importation of prohibited firearm.

The Court precincts were on Thursday heavily guarded by both uniformed and plain-clothed policemen.

However, Wanjigi did not appear in the Chief Magistrate’s court. He was represented by his legal team led by Muriithi Kiogora.

The court ruled that Wanjigi should appear before it on Monday when he is scheduled to take a plea.

It is expected that his lead counsel, Siaya Senator James Orengo will accompany him.

Wanjigi was on Wednesday dramatically served a warrant of arrest on the businessman at Museum Hill.

The officers believed to have been trailing Wanjigi from Westlands closed in on his Navy blue Toyota V8 at Museum Hill where they got out of their vehicle brandishing guns and ordered the occupants of the vehicle to come out.

They however, defied the order. By this time, the public was gathering around and the officer upon seeing this; pinned the arrest warrant on the vehicle’s windscreen and left.

The warrant read that he was to appear before a Nyeri magistrate today to answer to criminal charges.

“You are hereby commanded to attend this court at 8am on [March 1, 2018] and depart without leave of the court or until the case is finished,” read part of the warrant pinned on his vehicle.

Wanjigi said he was coming from lunch when he was ordered to stop and come out of his vehicle.

“I was coming from lunch at a hotel and on my way home just here a vehicle tried to stop us brandishing guns and they hooted saying stop! stop! before we knew it they were one or two others,” he said according to the Star.
