Tourism Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala has asked Narok Governor Samuel Ole Tunai to take action on those behind the setting up of a camp beside the Mara River.
The camp has blocked thousands of wildebeest from crossing the Mara River since it stands on the crossing path.
Balala issued the directive on Tuesday after public outcry following a viral video showing what looked like employees at the camp chasing away the animals.
“I have discussed with Narok County Governor SamuelTunai, about the camp built beside the Mara River, blocking the Wildebeest crossing. It’s very disturbing and we expect the Governor to take action and have the camp removed!” Balala said.
He said that the management of Maasai Mara needs to come up with Maasai Mara National Reserve Management Plan to stop people from “greed” while enhancing biodiversity and guarding all migratory corridors in the park.
“I have also insisted that we need a Maasai Mara National Reserve Management Plan that will not only enhance biodiversity, but also protect our wildlife migratory corridors, from greed!” CS Balala added.
The wildebeest migration at the Maasai Mara has always been a spectacle as 2 million animals cross over to Serengeti in Tanzania from Kenya.
The Great Migration starts in June through to October when there is plenty of food in Serengeti.
It has since been christened the seventh wonder of the world and attracts hundreds of tourists from the world all over every year.
