Babu Owino meets Kenyans wrath over call to boycott Kenyan betting and gaming firms

Embakasi East MP Paul Ongili alias Babu Owino found himself  on the firing line over a post calling for boycott on three companies allegedly belonging to Jubilee leaning personalities.

The MP in a fiery post on facebook that seemed to have irked many Kenyans called for boycotting of services by betting and gaming Companies Betway, M-Cheza and BETIN.

He said in his post: “The economic boycott should include the following companies which should be avoided like plague: BETWAY whose Chairman is Kiprono Kitoni, MCHEZA owned by the Gichuru’s [Julie] and BETIN.”

Kiprono Kittony is the Chairman Kenya National Chambers for Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) while Julie Gichuru is a prominent figure in Kenyan media and political circles having been a Journalist for donkey years.

Facebooks users hit out at the MP for playing tribal politics.

“Very young n ever stupid M.P in Kenya…you are peoples leader not luo leader. Instead of uniting Kenyans you are misleading us…no one of you leaders who is putting food on our table,” said Esther Kiriga.

“Uko na ujinga sana (you are a fool), why get tribal and you are a national leader? Start by avoiding Kenyan currencies with the picture of Mzee Jomo Kenyatta,” Sammy Mwangi told Babu.

“You’re paid by the government, boycott your salary just because you don’t recognize the govt’..” said Hon Michael Peter.

“What is wrong with being called Kiprono or Gichurus? You are a leader and these people probably contributed to who you are today. I say no to ethnic division,” scoffed Kipkoech Moses.

And as the tirade went a notch higher, he was asked to divorce his wife since she is Kikuyu while others told him the Luos employed by the companies he mentioned to resign.

Mwihaki Hegel Fredrick: “Haha luos can’t make without kikuyus, then divorce your wife, she is kikuyu.”

Royfred Gitonga: “How about those NASA supporters employed by those companies, should they resign and if they do will you put food in their table [?]”

NASA chief Raila Odinga on Wednesday last week asked Kenyans to boycott services and products of companies believed or perceived to be pro-Jubilee.
