The IEBC has cited the need for ample time to prepare for the fresh polls in their announcement moving the date on Thursday.

The electoral commission moved the date for repeat presidential election from October 17 to October 26, 2017.

“There is no doubt that the Supreme Court impacts on the election operations and in particular technology to be deployed,” said the IEBC Chairman, Wafula Chebukati.

On Wednesday, the commission received heavy criticism by the Supreme Court as the judges delivered their full judgment that led to the nullification of President Uhuru’s election. The IEBC was blamed for failing to provide reliable vote transmission systems.

This date change comes on the day the Cabinet approved a Sh10-billion budget for the high-stakes poll.
