A section of NASA allied Governors have expressed their apprehension with oppositions call for economic boycott.

The 18 governors point out that this will hurt the economy of their counties.

NASA leader Raila Odinga has called for civil disobedience and economic boycott in push to “liberate” Kenya from the Jaws of Jubilee regime which he accuses of driving the country southwards.

ODM has 16 governors while Ford Kenya and Wiper parties respectively have one governor each.

The governors expressed their fears on Thursday in a meeting with NASA top leadership.

They are opposed to planned demonstrations by the opposition citing earlier protest called for by NASA lowered revenue collection in the counties.

A Nyanza governor who requested for anonymity told the Star: “I personally support our presidential candidate but it is true the coalition’s planned protests could deny counties a business-friendly environment to collect taxes.”

“We were categorical we will walk together on this as we hope arrangements will be made to ensure businesses are not disrupted and our operations are not affected,” added he.

The National Resistance Movement, a NASA wing has so far called on Kenyans to boycott services and products from Safaricom, Brookside Dairies and Bidco.

Raila said the companies are among others that are conduits of electoral injustice in Kenya.

A Brookside dairy is associated with President Uhuru Kenyatta.

On Friday, ODM Director of Elections and Suna East MP Jubet Mohammed said the liberation has started already.

However, Deputy President William Ruto chided opposition terming their economic boycott call as extortion.

A few hours after NASA went public with their demand on Kenyans to boycott the three companies, he jibed NASA.

He tweeted: “That companies have to ‘donate’ to a supreme to avoid listen in the brazen and bizarre extortion racket — styled ‘economic boycott’? Criminal!”

As GoK we ask all companies to continue to partner with Kenyans, pay taxes only to KRA and reject the extortion scheme-styled “e-boycott.”

In yet another tweet, he asked Bidco not to bow down to demands by NASA and continue its expansion plan.

“As GoK, we advise Bidco to reject extortion and continue its Sh20 billion expansion programme that will increase to 12,500 Kenyans working there.”
