Opposition Chief Raila Odinga says he is gratified now that he has briefed the international community about Kenya’s political situation.

Raila has been on a tour to the US since last week on Tuesday.

In the past week, he had a series of high profile engagements with powerful personalities including former Ambassador to Kenya Johnnie Carson.

During the meetings and lectures, Raila underscored that Kenya’s democracy is on its knees.

He told an audience at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, DC last week that electoral reforms are a must.

He said continued and sustained electoral injustice since Kenya’s independence has undermined the spirit and growth of democracy.

But he now says he is ready to come back to his motherland after delivering his message to the international community.

“I have had an opportunity to meet leaders in state department congress…there is a lot of interest in Kenya. I have met professionals and businessmen and briefed them on the kind of challenges we are facing following the bungled elections,” he wrote on his twitter handle.

And in a way to show that the international community he appreciates their support, he said, “I am happy with what I have seen here and I’m happy to come back home. We have a lot of friends in the USA.”

Raila’s trip to the US came days after President Uhuru Kenyatta was declared the winner of the repeat elections held on October 26.

The NASA boss has dismissed the poll as a sham and has refused to acknowledge Uhuru’s victory.

Deputy President William Ruto last week alleged that the trip to the US by the opposition chief was a plan to thwart his 2022 Presidential bid.

“So, Tinga went all the way to the USA to seek support to scuttle the possibility of a son of peasant from being elected prezo in 2022!Balaa!” said Ruto via twitter.

Raila is expected to jet back on Friday. His supporters have organized a mega reception but government has spoken against it.

On Wednesday, Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinett through Police Spokesperson George Kinoti said crowd will not be allowed into JKIA to receive the NASA boss.

He said it poses a security risk in an area that is protected.

However, NASA leadership has defied the order and said they will accord Raila a “one million man” reception at the airport.
