A multi-agency team has nabbed four kilogrammes of narcotics at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in a sting operation involving Kenya Airways staff.

The narcotics intercepted on Friday night had been concealed as Kenyan coffee.

According to the Star, the narcotics had been hidden within the crew restroom of a Kenya Airways plane (Flight KQ 870) destined for Hong-kong, China.

Daniel Koech and Paul Omondi who are both Kenya Airways in-flight crew members were arrested.

The two are believed to be working in cahoots with former staff members of the airline to secretly peddle drugs in China, India and Netherlands.

The sting operation was triggered by a tip off by friendly foreign security agencies who had notice there was an influx of narcotics from Kenyan flights.

The supplier of the narcotics is yet to be revealed.

But sources indicate Kenya drug ring could have close ties with another drug syndicate from Nigeria.

On a monthly basis, the syndicate has been peddling about 50kgs of assorted narcotics including cocaine, heroin and methamphetamine.

With evidence of JKIA staff involved in drug peddling, the airline is expected to heighten vigilance.

The two suspects will be arraigned in court on Monday as detectives comb through their houses for ore evidence.
