The US military on Wednesday conducted three precision airstrikes in Somalia killing six al shabaab militants.

In a statement by the United States Department of State, cites the Star, the airstrike occurred about 260 kilometers south of the capital, Mogadishu.

The airstrike was conducted in line with the confines set by the authorities granted by President Donald Trump in March 2017.

On Monday, the insurgents raided an army base at the border of Somalia and Kenya at Balad Hawo.

They drove in with a car ridden with bombs and killed 17 people.

However, Somali government forces managed to regain control of the town from the militants the same day.

The country has been at war since 1991 when clan-based warlords overthrew Dictator Siad Barre.

They later turned on each other and violence broke out.

In 2011, Kenya and her neighbors deployed their soldiers in a move to flush out the terrorist group that has been controlling the country for over a decade.
