The National Super Alliance has raised sh1 billion since the launch of a public fundraiser last week on Friday.

On Tuesday, the coalition said so far, they have managed to collect sh1 billion.

According to the Star, M-Pesa paybill which targeted a majority of Kenyans has managed to raise Sh850 million while a bank account unveiled collected Sh260 million by Monday evening.

By Sunday, a section of the diaspora community rallying behind NASA had pooled sh1.8 million.

An ODM official who declined to be named due to sensitivity of the issue said with the momentum of the fundraiser, they will hit their target.

They are targeting sh2.5 billion in the coming days ahead of repeat polls in October 17.

“We are unstoppable. They thought we didn’t have enough money, but, for sure, I can tell you our reconciliations show we have more than Sh1 billion,” said the official who is among three signatories as the Star quotes.

“We are overwhelmed by the support we are receiving,” he added.

ODM is spearheading the campaign fundraiser because Raila Odinga is running for the top seat on an ODM ticket.

The fundraiser had been criticized by Jubilee’s Aden Duale terming it a ploy to fleece Kenyans.

“Kenyans must ignore these fraudsters masquerading as liberators. We are asking Kenyans to be very careful because this is similar to gambling,” said the Leader of Majority in the National Assembly.

In response, Raila defended his course stating: “All over the democratic world, elections are financed and run by donors and volunteers.”

“In fact, in many countries where big business and the corporate world are in bed with the repressive State, volunteers and small donors are the ones who make the big difference.”
