Kenyans have called on police to arrest a rogue tout accused of assaulting passengers at his job station, Meru bus stage at Tea Room in Nairobi CBD.

The tout, Felix Mwingirwa is reportedly said to have assaulted a passenger on January 30, 2018 leaving him for the dead and was never arrested due to his “cordial relationship” with officers from Nairobi Central Police Station.

In fact, reports Daily Nation, his connection with top cops in the city have earned him the title “untouchable”. Civilians who try to seek justice over his errant behavior end up behind bars.

Two witnesses into the January 30 assault case, John Mwaniki and John Kithinji were on Sunday arrested by officers from Central Police Station in unclear circumstances. Junior officers at the station said they were following orders from above in arresting the two witnesses.

“I really don’t know why they were arrested, but anything is possible with Msanii, (Mwingirwa) because he is really connected. He has senior police officers who protect him,” an officer at the Station told Daily Nation.

Touts and drivers at the Meru terminus in the CBD said Mwingirwa collects “protection fee” on behalf of the officers from drivers, hotels and bar owners.

In a day, further reports Daily Nation, he collects hundreds of thousands of shillings for the cops.

The National Police Service issued a statement last week saying the suspect was arrested and charged with three counts of assault and later released on Sh50, 000 cash bail.

On Wednesday, Kenyans on social media asked police to hunt him down.

Nairobi County Police Commander Joseph Ole Metito during press conference said they are on the matter and will bring him to book.

Directorate of Criminal Investigation George Kinoti ordered detectives from Central Police Station to investigate the conduct of the tout who now has five charges of assault on his head.

“No one is untouchable. A criminal is a criminal and I will not tolerate this,” said Kinoti.
