Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru is once against in the eye of a storm following fresh accusations of financial impropriety.

She has been tasked to explain how sh51.9 million shillings raised by Kirinyaga professionals and elected leaders towards President Uhuru Kenyatta’s re-election campaign was used.

The team argues that campaign operations were few and could not have gobbled up the amount.

And if otherwise, the committee handling the money should give a breakdown of how the money was used.

“We want to be told where much of the cash went because only 10 vehicles were branded and few campaign roadshows conducted. This is a scandal,’ said Peter Kariuki from Mwea according to Nairobi News.

The money collected was deposited in the bank in an account whose signatories were a senior Jubilee official from Nairobi headquarters, two MCAs from Kirinyaga and an MP from the county.

The Kirinyaga Jubilee team led by Waiguru sent tongues wagging before the re-election of Uhuru after raising the amount of a record two days.

Another resident of the county Ephraim Warui and a member of the county’s campaign team said the money could not have been used exhaustively because there was no major rally held.

But Murango Kamau, Leader of Majority in Kirinyaga County Assembly and of the signatories of the account said they used the money in a transparent manner.

He said his committee only received sh11 million deposited in Cooperative Bank, Kirinyaga Branch.

“I only know of sh11 million and I can clearly account for it. I think the difference was a pledge by MCAs, MPs and professionals,” said the MCA.

He cast aspersion on a group of MPs from the county for politicizing the issue since they got daily updates on how the campaign finances were being used.

“Some of these MPs who are now undermining the county government are behaving like saints but they are not.”

But a county politician who requested for anonymity insisted the figure was sh45 million.

He said: “What I know is that the sh45 million was raised for campaigns and handed over to the committee. The Majority leader, Mr Kamau, and his colleagues are the only ones who were signatory to the bank account. They should tell us whether the money was used well or not.”

The governor in response to the claims said the reports are geared towards tarnishing her name.
