The bodies of Kenyan man and his 11-year-old daughter who drowned in Lake Whitney in Texas on Saturday have been recovered by the search crews.

The Hills County Sheriff’s Office reported that the man, who was identified as Benjamin Nzavi had gone to Lake Whitney to swim. The child is reported to have ”stepped off the shelf and her father tried to save her shortly after”. They both did not resurface. According to KCENTV

Nzavi is said to have been a minister in the jail ministry program and he spent most of his Sundays at the Hill County Jail ministering. He was known by many members of the Sherriff’s office who assisted in search and rescue mission.

The search was made difficult by the weather. Rescuers conducted the search in low visibility Saturday evening, and could not recover the bodies of the two until just before noon on Sunday when they located the bodies near a drop-off on the bottom of the lake, just feet from one another.

“When it’s people you know, it makes it much more difficult.” Said Chief Deputy Rick White
