Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed is mourning the loss of her husband Khalid Ahmed.
Ahmed died on Thursday morning at the Karen Hospital.
A family spokesman says he was taken ill at 5 am and died shortly after his arrival at the hospital.
Ahmed lived a private life away from the public eye despite his wife being a high-ranking government official.
He was an astute businessman and a loving father to his two children.
Ahmed’s death comes a few months after Amina lost her brother Esmael Mohammed Jibril, a prominent city businessman while receiving treatment in India.
President Uhuru Kenyatta conveyed his eulogy from the United Kingdom, where he is on a three-day tour.
President Uhuru Kenyatta has sent a message of condolence to the family of Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed following the death of her husband Khalid Hossain Ahmed.
Uhuru described the deceased as a strong pillar for the family.
“I have received the disheartening news of the passing away of Mr Khalid Ahmed with great sadness. Mr Ahmed was a great person, a gentleman and a strong pillar of his family.
“My deepest condolences to my colleague and friend Cabinet Secretary Amina, the children and the extended family as they come to terms with the sudden passing away of Mr Ahmed.
“It is very unfortunate that death has robbed our country of a gifted businessman whose contribution to the progress of our nation shall be dearly missed.”
Raila Odinga mourned the deceased, saying: “Dear C.S @AMB_A_Mohammed kindly accept deepest condolences from Mama Ida and I following the passing of your Dear husband Khalid Ahmed. May God the Almighty grant you and your family fortitude to bear the loss. Poleni sana. Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un.”
