Kenya has recorded 179 new Covid-19 positive cases in the last 24 hours raising the country’s total caseload to 34,884.

Health CAS Rashid Aman on Friday in his daily briefing from Bomet county announced that 4,178 samples had been tested in the last 24 hours bringing the total number of samples tested so far to 467,677.

He revealed that out of the 179 new positive cases, 162 are Kenyans while 17 are foreigners.

However, 126 are male and 53 are female while the youngest case is a one-year-old infant and the oldest is aged 75.

Basing on county distribution, Nairobi leads with 66 cases followed by Garissa with 21, Turkana 12, Nakuru 12, Busia 11, Taita Taveta 10, Kiambu 9, Kitui 6, Kisumu 5.

Kajiado, Machakos, Kericho, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia counties recorded three cases each.

Kisii, Mombasa, Laikipia and Nyeri each had two cases each while Kilifi, Baringo and Uasin Gishu counties had one case each.

At the same time, 415 patients were discharged, 161 from home-based care and 254 from hospitals around the country bringing the total number of recoveries to 21,059. Regrettably, four patients succumbed to the disease bring the total number of deaths to 589.

This announcement comes a day after the ministry asserted that it is confident it will flatten the curve albeit testing labs have run out of reagents.
