Jubilee Party nominations have kicked off in five counties; Kirinyaga, Bomet, Baringo, Nandi and Elegeyo-Marakwet.
Counties with most polling stations opened as early as 6am, with voting starting around 6:30am.
In Nairobi, however, primaries have been moved to Wednesday according to the party’s Secretary General Raphael Tuju. He did not comment on the postponement of the polls which were scheduled for Monday.
This came amid speculation of ongoing talks between aspirants Mike Sonko and former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth.
In the counties where polls went ahead as earlier scheduled, there was a change in a few things compared to the failed primaries last week. Today’s ballots are black in color and are not perforated, meaning they can only be torn from the booklet manually, minimizing the risks of counterfeit ballots.
Voters in several stations expressed satisfaction in how the process is being carried out today.
The presiding officer at Kaitheri polling station in Kerugoya, Ms Rachael Muriuki, said adequate preparations had been made.
