A police officer attached to Kiambu Police Station has gone into hiding after it was discovered he has been renting his gun to criminals.

The officer of the rank of Senior Sergeant is being sought by Detectives from the Special Crime Prevention Unit.

This was discovered after two rogue criminals were gunned down by police at Industrial Area on Friday. Two pistols were recovered from them, one of which belongs to the officer.

He went into hiding hours after the incident and has not been found since.

According to the Star, a source at the Kiambu County Police Headquarters said the officer had not reported his firearm was missing therefore, they concluded he has been hiring it out to the criminals.

Head of the SCPU Noah Katumo said they have not arrested the officer yet.

This finding is not an isolated case; it brings to the fore what has been happening.

In the neighboring Nairobi County where city muggings have soared, it has also been discovered that some officers are colluding with the criminals.

This is a major headache for top police commanders in the city.

However, Police Spokesperson Charles Owino downplayed these claims saying any officer who colludes with a criminal will be treated as such.

“We cannot entertain any criminals in the name of police officers. Any officers giving guns to criminals know very well what will happen to them,” he said as quoted by the Star.

Last year about 8 officers were arrested and charged for collusion and execution of criminal activities.

Four officers were on July 24 arrested along Nakuru-Waiyaki highway by DCI officers from Kikuyu police station.

They had allegedly robbed a Chinese investor on his way to Bomet Sh2 million.
