Any Kenyan seeking to replace a lost national identity card will have to pay Sh100 in new regulations introduced by the Interior Ministry.

Director of National Registration, Reuben Kimotho on Tuesday in a statement said the new charges will take effect starting March 15.

Kimotho directed all sub-county registrars to ensure the amount is charged for replacing a duplicate ID Card.

The amount will however, not be charged on persons applying for an ID card for the first time.

“Please not the Ksh100 fee will not be applicable to young persons who are attaining the 18 years,” read the notice from the Interior Ministry according to Citizen Digital.

He asked the Sub-County Registrars to be accountable.

“As the manager in charge of the registration in the sub-county, you must exercise accountability. You will personally be held responsible for any mishandling or misappropriation of the revenue.”

The new regulation takes comes to play after government earlier in 2015 scrapped statutory fee of Ksh300 that had been introduced in 2011 for anyone seeking to replace a lost ID card.

One is required to present a police abstract form from any police station and a copy of the lost ID card or the ID number when replacing it.
