Ferdinand Waititu has officially been declared the winner of Kiambu county Jubilee nominations beating Governor William Kabogo by over 280,000 votes. Waititu garnered 353,604 votes, while Kabogo received 69,916 votes in what was anticipated to be a close race.

‘Someone does not want Kabogo as governor of Kiambu in the next five years, and I’m saying, I’m done with it for now,” Kabogo said

In the Women Representative race, former Kameme FM presenter Gathoni Muchomba defeated President Uhuru Kenyatta’s cousin Annah Nyokabi Gathecha to clinch the jubilee nomination.

Gathoni, who says her political career was influenced by her humble background, had narrated how their family suffered in the hands of auctioneers, an experience that nearly cut short her studies. It is for that reason, she said, that her heart bleeds to see a kid sent home for fees, and she looks forward to partner with other like-minded legislators to make Kiambu the dream county the residents have all been dreaming of.

Elsewhere in the county, jubilee nominations sent several incumbents home, including MPs Esther Gathogo (Ruiru) Njoroge Baiya (Githunguri), John Kiragu (Limuru), Mburu Kahangara (Lari), Kigo Njenga (Gatunddu North) who all lost in the nominations.

On Wednesday, the High Court dismissed a suit filed by the Council of Governors in a bid to have the law barring party-hopping suspended. This means all the losers will have to wait for five years to be eligible for another contest unless they decide to go in as independent without any party affiliation. The judge cited that individual rights must be where circumstances give way to public interest.
