An ultra sound machine valued at Sh20 million stolen from Kapenguria Hospital in West Pokot County a month ago, has been returned.

The state-of-the –art mini machine was stolen on March 7.

John Mureithi, a resident of Lityei village returned the machine to the hospital but was arrested to enable police conduct further investigations.

Mureithi in his account says he was given the ultra sound machine by an unknown person to source for a potential buyer.

However, he later discovered it was the one stolen from the hospital and he decided to return it.

Kapenguria Hospital medical superintendent Jotham Mukhola said he is at ease now that the machine has been returned.

His colleague, Abraham Longolomoi- Health chief officer, noted it was disheartening that someone could steal such an expensive machine which was helping in the “Saving Mothers” project in the county.

“It is a mobile machine almost the size of a laptop. It is a powerful machine which can help a gynecologist diagnose the interior parts of a women womb,” Longolomoi told the Star.

The machine has been a critical part of the county’s effort in saving the lives of expectant mothers.

Before its arrival, pregnant women had to trek long distances to get a health facility with an ultra sound machine.
