Kenyan-born Hollywood star Lupita Nyong’o played a good one on Kenyans after a surprise visit to her home county in Kisumu on Saturday.

Lupita whose father, Prof Anyang Nyong’o is the Kisumu Governor was flanked by a group of investors during the covet visit to the lakeside city.

County Executive Committee members Achie Alai (Tourism), Salmon Orimba (Environment), Alice Moraa (Trade), Dickson Odhiambo (Urban Planning), County Tourism Director Thomas Ouko and Comedian Jalang’o were part of Lupita’s entourage.

Lupita together with the group of investors held a closed door meeting where according to the Standard; they deliberated on how to support Kenyan artists.

She later stepped out accompanied by a few of her family members and went to the city. Her private security detail did not allow the media to take any photos or interview her.

Lupita’s public engagements are only approved by her director.

Governor Nyongo’s communication team that was allowed to take photos with her was warned against sharing them without her approval

A convoy of 15 county vehicles escorted Lupita as she toured the city before she was later joined by other county government officials when she visited talent centres in Kisumu.

Donned in a dotted light blue dress, Lupita surpised a group of artist when she entered the Goan Institute and also joined in a dance they were performing.

“It is a great honour,” Diana Gaya, one of the dancers told the Standard.

She later visited Kisumu Museum. It is not yet clear if or not she returned to Nairobi last evening.

Her visit comes barely a week after she put Samburu in the global map with her narration on the effort the community is making in conserving elephants.
