The number of COVID-19 cases in the country increased to 93,405 after 552 new cases were confirmed on Thursday.
The Ministry of Health tested a total of 7,013 samples in the last 24 hours.
Health CS Mutahi Kagwe in a statement sent to newsrooms said that out of the new cases, 346 were male and 206 were female. The youngest case was a one-year-old and the oldest was aged 93.
From the cases, 529 are Kenyans while 23 are foreigners.
Some 596 patients recovered from the virus with 484 discharged from home-based care programme and 112 from various hospitals in the country.
This brings the total number of recoveries to 74,999.
Sadly, four patients succumbed to the disease bringing the total number of deaths to 1,618.
Of admitted patients, 49 are in the ICU 22 of whom are on ventilatory support, and 21 on supplemental oxygen and another 6 under observation.
Another 43 patients were separately on supplementary oxygen. 33 of those were in the general wards and 10 in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).
Currently, there are 843 patients admitted in various health facilities countrywide and 6,090 on Home Based Isolation and Care.
The government also announced that upon arrival of the 24 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine that it ordered, teachers and police officers will be given a priority.
Kenya in its proposal to acquire Oxford University-AstraZeneca vaccine said that 24 million doses are equal to serving 20 percent of Kenya’s population.
Health workers who stand a higher risk of contracting the virus will also be among the first batch of Kenyans to receive the vaccine.
In the US where administration of the vaccine is set to kick off on Monday, health workers will also be prioritized.
