Workers of about 30 quarries in Murang’a County will each get a bull as Christmas gift from Ahadi Kenya CEO Stanley Kamau.

Kamau while donating one of the bulls to Kiamunyaga quarry workers in Kiharu constituency on Saturday said the group has been forgotten.

He said quarry workers do the hard work but no one seems to remember them when such times come yet they earn so little from the work they do.

“Despite working so hard, these people are unable to engage in the festivities because of their meagre earnings. They have remained unforgotten for a long time,” said the Ahadi Kenya CEO as quoted by the Star.

He noted well-wishers always remember to gift orphans, women and other groups but not quarry workers who despite putting a lot of energy in the quarries, earn meager salaries.

He said they should be considered because everyone who puts up a house does it because of their effort.

“Christ died for all so am asking those with the willingness to give to start focusing on other less empowered groups of people to help them experience the spirit of Christmas.”

He called on government to roll out a development programme that will empower and better their lives.

He wants them to be registered by government and a medical cover launched for them since they are injured more often than not.

“These people suffer numerous injuries after falling in the quarries and when rocks unexpectedly fall on them and they are unable to pay for their medical expenses,” he further said.

Those fighting for boy child rights, added Kamau, should also think about the quarry workers.

The quarry worker’s chairman Joseph Kimani cited harassment from police officers as their biggest challenge.

Kimani said use of explosives in the quarries has put them at loggerheads with the law enforcers.

He thanked Kamau and his team for their generosity saying he has not seen such kindness before.
