Nyali MP Mohamed Ali on Thursday elicited a sharp debate on Thursday after walking into the chambers with a gun ticked on his back.

A heated debate ensued after Gem MP Elisha Odhiambo alerted National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi that Ali was in the chambers.

Adhiambo said that with such occurrences, MPs are no longer safe in the August House.

“Mr Speaker I have noticed some behaviour which is not of good conduct, I am not aware that members are allowed to walk into the chambers with their guns.

“Mr Speaker if that is a gun Hon Ali is carrying on his back, then we are not safe in here,” the Gem MP decried.

The Speaker prompted the Nyali lawmaker to surrender the gun.

Ali sought for pardon saying that he forgot to leave his gun outside the chambers.

Irked, some MPs shouted him down demanding he surrenders the gun immediately.

Ali, however, called out his Gem counterpart over his decision to alert the Speaker about the gun on live TV.

He told him to exercise “decorum” and pursue other channels away from the public eye.

“I think sometimes as MPs it is good and wise to behave like gentlemen, rather than announcing it on national television, he should have approached me quietly,” the Nyali MP scoffed.

He also said that it was wrong for the ODM MP to politicize the issues and make it look like a Tanga Tanga issue.

The Kenyan Parliament Standing Orders do not allow legislators to carry their firearms to the chambers.
