There were 559 new COVID-19 cases recorded in the last 24 hours, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said on Monday.
The new cases now bring the tally to 70,804.
A total of 6,648 samples were tested bringing the total number of samples tested so far to 793,026.
Out of the 559 new cases, 541 were Kenyans while 18 were foreigners. Out of these, 336 were male and 223 female.
On Monday, some 478 patients made a full recovery; 337 were discharged from the home-based care program and 141 from the various hospitals around the country bringing the total number of recoveries to 46,244.
Sadly, 18 patients succumbed to the disease bringing the total number of deaths to 1,287.
Kagwe said that November has been a terrific month with “14,926 positive cases and lost 274 people, eight of whom are medical doctors.”
He added that he is in consultation with stakeholders on the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) issue following uproar by Kenyans.
Last week, the CS announced that NHIF would not cover COVID-19 patients citing “heavy financial burden”.
The CS spoke as a Form Four student from Lureko Secondary School in Mumias West, Kakamega County succumbed to COVID-19.
The student had been isolated at home but was rushed to the hospital after developing complications.
