IEBC clerk arrested in Changamwe for issuing double ballot papers to voters

A clerk with the IEBC was on Tuesday arrested by police in Changamwe for issuing double ballot papers to every voter.

Kennedy Mulwa is reported to have handed every voter two ballot papers for the Presidency, Senator and MP positions respectively.

Police arrested him after some voters shared the information with the police.

Mombasa regional police commander Larry Kieng said: “Our officers acted swiftly after being notified by witnesses and we arrested him with the papers.

Mulwa is set to be arraigned in court once police are through with investigations.

In Bomet County, a County Executive was arrested for trying to bribe voters.

In the Elections Act, voter bribery is an election offence.

Still in Coast region, voting in some regions within Lamu County which are terror prone started off late.

According to IEBC’s coordinator in the county Mohammed Adan, the delay was due to election materials not getting to Basuba and Kiunga wards in time because of security challenges.

They were forced to transport the materials together with staff through a small aircraft.

In such places, according to IEBC Chair Wafula Chebukati, voting time will be extended beyond the stipulated 5pm.

In other places, voting started off as early as 6pm.
