IEBC provides evidence 7.6 million Kenyans voted in repeat polls, proves NASA wrong

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission had adduced evidence to back their claim that more than 7.4 million Kenyans turned up to vote last week on Thursday.

IEBC provided the proof after NASA led by Raila Odinga disputed that the turnout was of about 7.5 million voters.

Raila in multiple interviews with international media since Friday last week said his projection of voter turnout could not have been more than 3.5 million voters.

He said this figure was from the Kiems kit. He questioned how President-elect Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta would garner 7.4 million votes yet the turnout was 3.5 million.

In a set of data it released, IEBC depicts about 99 per cent of those who voted on October 26 repeat presidential polls were identified by electronically.

Data supplied by the electoral commission to Daily Nation from the elections technology provider OT-Morpho shows 98.98 per cent of voters were identified using the Kenya Integrated Election Management System (KIEMS) kits.

About 7,575,806 voters were identified electronically by having their fingerprints searched by KIEMS kits.

Further, cites Daily Nation, “OT-Morpho’s data showed that 5,525,487 voters were identified using biometric finger identifications, 1,622,276 through the alpha-numeric search, and 428,043 using the documents search in the register.”

In alpha-numeric identification search, a voter’s ID or passport is scanned and if findings are positive, they place their finger on the kit for biometrics to be recorded.

In document identification search, registration details are keyed into the kit and if positive findings come up from the roll, a voter is asked to place his finger on the kits for recording of biometrics.

From the data provided by OT-Morpho, it shows valid votes cast were 7,616,217 valid votes were cast while 37,713 rejected votes.

“Please also note that the voters identified manually (without using the Kiems kits) or the voters non validated by the operators during the identification process are not counted as identified voters,” OT-Morpho vice-president in charge of Africa Olivier Charlanes said in the letter to the IEBC dated October 30.
