A Kenyan photo journalist, Dennis Musundi, is appealing to well-wishers to fundraise Sh12 million to enable him fly to South Africa for bone marrow transplant.

The 31-year old West media journalist is suffering from Acute Leukemia.

He has been hospitalized at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) since the start of this month.

He told the Star that he began feeling dizzy after returning to Nairobi from Christmas holiday upcountry.

Musundi sought for medication at Shalom hospital in Athi River where he got Malaria treatment but his health deteriorated forcing him to seek treatment at Kenyatta National Hospital.

“From 28th to 30th I was treated for Malaria but unfortunately the feeling persisted and I had a high fever. I visited the hospital again and ran several blood tests before the doctor told me that I had an abnormal production of red and white blood cells,” he said.

Here, doctors told him he was suffering from bacterial infection. He was given drugs but nothing changed.

“I exhausted all the medicine I was given. When I returned on for the check-up, I was told that nothing had changed. They took some blood samples and told me to collect results after a week.”

“I visited the Kenya Medical Association and requested to see doctor Walter Mwanda. Though he was not in, I was given an appointment and I went. He conducted a full blood test on me,” said the photo journalist.

The results came back the same as those conducted at Shalom Hospital. But Dr Mwanda decided to conduct another test that lasted 20 minutes.

Its findings, he was suffering from acute Leukemia.

“The doctor advised me to start immediate medication and referred me to Kenyatta where I was admitted. He said the best option will be to do Chemotherapy and bone marrow transplant.”

He said at KNH, doctors have been helpful enough as they have been doing blood transfusion on him but he urgently requires specialized treatment.

Musundi has tried to reach President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto in the effort to seek for medical appeal but it has been futile.

“All I want is to get medical attention. I trust that God is the healer with the support of good friends I know all shall be well,” he said.

He has been supporting his family since the death of his father in 1997 being the only son who has a white collar job.

Kenyans can donate through M-Pesa paybill 138 182 or account number 122290335.
