KQ cancels Johannesburg flight after accident at the airport

Kenya Airways was forced to cancel a flight to Johannesburg after the plane was involved in an accident on Sunday night.

There were no injuries, however. The aircraft has a capacity of 145 passengers.

On Monday, the airline sent a statement to newsrooms explaining the accident occurred during a push back of the aircraft.

“Kenya Airways confirms that one of its aircraft was involved in an unfortunate incident. The aircraft, a B-737-800, was expected to operate flight KQ764 to Johannesburg,” read part of the statement.

It is reported a tow truck at the airport hit the plane.

“The incident involving an airport tow truck happened during push back of the aircraft from the bay, damaging part of its fuselage and engine.”

Passengers who were to board the plane were assigned to other flights.

KQ going by reports from inside sources has made losses in the past due to the cancellation of flights which at times is informed by “unavoidable circumstances”.

But, the airline has assured its clients it will remain committed to their safety as well as that of their employees and will work towards ensuring their operations are executed without hitches.
