Kuria, Muthama arrested for hatespeech, booked at Pangani Police station

Police have arrested Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria over hatespeech remarks.

He was arrested on Monday and taken to Pangani Police Station.

His arrest comes after an outrageous facebook post he made on September 5 saying they will launch a “manhunt” for 70, 000 Kiambyu residents who voted for Raila Odinga in the bungled August 8 polls.

“Kiambu has spoken. They have said Wembe ni ule ule (the razor blade is the same one). Wangige and Kiambu people are seething with anger. One million of their votes were cancelled by four people.

But they are so ready to do it again. And even more. Manhunt is on tonight for the 200,000 people who did not vote and the 70,000 that voted for that other demon,” read the post.

It drew criticism from Kenyans asking the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) to take action against the legislator.

Jubilee Party Secretary-General Raphael Tuju last week distanced the party from the “Manhunt” remark by the MP.

He categorically said this is not the position of the party and it is unacceptable.

“That’s completely out of order and I will not accept that kind of language. And if it is true, I will take up with him. It is unacceptable,” said Tuju.

“It is not a Jubilee policy. It cannot be a Jubilee policy and we cannot be put on the spot by mistakes of a few elements in the party which are preaching wrong things.”

The MP is not new to hatespeech controversy.

He has in the past been arrested and charged for the same.

Former Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama was also arrested on Monday at Kangudo.

The two politicians will be booked at Pangani Police Station.
