Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria plans to hold a series of fundraisers to raise Sh6.5 million he was ordered to pay for damages to Narc Kenya’s Martha Karua.

Kuria will pitch his first fundraiser in Kerugoya, one of the major towns within Kirinyaga County which is considered to be Karua’s home turf.

On Wednesday, the High Court ordered the fiery MP to pay Karua the amount for defamation after linking her to recruitment of fake ICC witnesses to fix Deputy President William Ruto.

The Gatundu South MP first made the remarks against the Narc Kenya party boss in Kapsokwony, in Kericho County on September 21, 2015.

He said Karua and a team of other leaders met at Galileo Lounge in Nairobi where they drew up a scheme to recruit fake witnesses to allegedly fix Ruto who was at the time facing crimes against humanity charges at Hague in Netherlands.

Karua moved to court after the MP failed to issue a public apology and sued him for Sh20 million.

Despite an ultimatum to issue an apology or face court action, Kuria went ahead to spew the narrative even in Parliament.

In court, Karua argued that the remarks made against her. “The claims are scandalous, malicious, unwarranted and lowered my dignity among right thinking members of the society.”

In a facebook post on Wednesday, Kuria said he will embark on a series of fundraisers all over the country to raise the money which he termed as “child support”.

“Today I was instructed by the court to pay child support amounting to Ksh6.5 million. I will be holding a series of Harambee across the country so that you, my supporters can help me,” read part of the post.

He added: “The first Harambee will be held in Kerugoya stadium in the next few weeks. The date will be announced here soon.”

Kuria is not new to controversy. He is battling another hate speech and incitement case in court.

After the August 8 polls were nullified, the MP took to his facebook page where he posted a message targeting certain people from a certain community and made an inappropriate comment.

The case is currently ongoing.
