A 37-year old man serving as a security guard for Mbita MP Millie Odhiambo passed on after he was run over by a vehicle during chaotic ODM nominations.

Kennedy Okore met his death at Urianda Primary School, Lambwe ward on Monday after chaos erupted.

He was rushed to Ongogo sub-county hospital in Mbita where he was wheeled in critical condition but later passed on.

Chaos erupted between the supporters of Odhiambo and those of her challenger James Akali, resulting in the death of Okore.

Her rival’s camp allegedly blocked her supporters from entering the polling center. When she arrived, she was met with resistance by armed goons from her opponent.

“I got several phone calls that my supporters were being deterred from entering the polling station. I rushed to check but when I reached there, the armed goons confronted and began hurling stones at us,” said the Mbita MP.

It is during this confrontation that Okore was run over by a vehicle

MP Odhiambo condoled with the family of the late Okore urging police to arrest the culprits behind the death of her guard.

“Let the police take action against the culprits urgently to avoid violence in this exercise,” charged Odhiambo.

But her opponent, Akali, distanced himself from the matter saying he was not responsible for what happened.

He said he was in Mbita at the time of the accident and that Odhiambo is accusing him to get sympathy votes.

“Millie is looking for sympathy votes after sensing defeat. She is fond of accusing me for no reason.”
