The 12th Parliament will hold its first sitting on August 31, President Uhuru Kenyatta has said.

The President in a gazette notice on Thursday said the first session of the 12th National Assembly will be held at the Parliament’s main buildings from 2:30pm.

His pronouncement comes a day after the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) gazetted all elected MPs and MCAs while the nominated members to Parliament and County Assemblies will be gazetted in a special notice today.

Going by law, The President has the powers to gazette the recall of the National Assembly and the Senate which will hold its first session on September 8.

“Whenever a new house is elected, the President, by notice in the Kenya Gazette, shall appoint the place and date for the first sitting of the new House, which shall be not more than thirty days after the election,” sates Article 126 (2) of the Constitution.
