NASA Presidential candidate Raila Odinga has set his eyes on raising sh1 billion in one week for his campaigns.

His team had organized a gala dinner to be held on Monday next week, June 19 but it has been pushed by a few days as he will be launching his manifesto on the same day.

According to the Star, those on a platinum ticket will share dinner with the former Prime Minister side by side and will cough up sh10 million for this.

For those on the Gold platform, they will pay sh5 million per plate while those in the Silver will pay sh3 million per plate.

Sources close to NASA leadership say that the gala dinner will bring on board business moguls, private sector players, and civil society personalities.

Politicians allied to the Coalition will also attend the dinner.

Those attending the event will only give out their donations in form of cheques and not in cash.

“We will not be receiving cash. Those attending will be expected to come only with bank payment slips as proof of payment,” said a source involved in NASA affairs.

Pledges and donations such as vehicles, office space, staff and campaign materials will also be accepted.

Opposition’s humongous campaign budget is geared towards a spirited campaign that will rally support from the grassroots.

Of the sh1 billion they expect to raise, sh45 million will be used to buy airtime for three hours across major television stations in the country.

The rest of the money will be put out for logistics such as transport, paying salaries, rent, and advertising on billboards among other things.

Last week, Raila’s biggest competitor, President Uhuru Kenyatta of Jubilee raised sh500 million in a record of two hours.

Uhuru raised campaign funds through a lobby group-Friends of Jubilee Foundation which comprises wealthy businessmen, lawyers, insurance owners, bankers, advertisers among others.
