Retired President Daniel Moi to build sh45 billion mission hospital at Kabarak University

Retired President Daniel Arap Moi who is the brains behind today’s Kabarak University is set to build a multi-million teaching, research and referral hospital in Kabarak, Nakuru County.

The hospital will be built at a cost of sh45 billion. It will take 45 months to be put up and is expected to be up and running by 2020.

It will have state-of-the-art health facilities as well as a 500-bed capacity.

The institution’s acting Vice Chancellor Henry Kiplagat noted that the facility will also have a 250-bed satellite facility in the city.

The construction has also been funded by international organizations with repute of delivering quality health services.

The VC noted that they are proud to have such a project within the institution.

“This is a dream come true for the chancellor of the university — we are proud to be associated with this accomplishment that will make a lasting impact to many lives,” said Dr Kiplagat as reported by Business Daily.

He added: “It has taken many years of planning and stewardship dating back to 1978 by Mzee Moi to conceive this project and we become the first university in the country to start its own teaching and referral mission hospital.”

The university’s school of Medicine is estimated to have cost Moi sh300 million.

US-based multinational GE Healthcare, will equip referral hospital according to GE Healthcare Africa chief executive Farid Fezoua.

“We will assist the university with infrastructure development, technology transfer, equipment management and transfer to enable better patients’ health outcome,” he said.
