Ruto’s ICC Lawyer, Karim Khan, gets new job in Kenya after ICC glory

The British Lawyer Karim Khan has landed another job in Kenya.

The renowned British lawyer landed a new job in the country months after he represented Deputy President William Ruto at the International Criminal Court in The Hague, Netherlands.

Khan was sought after by the Nandi County Government in a suit pitting British government against it.

The county is suing the British government on behalf of the locals against atrocities unleashed to the community during the colonial era.

Led by Governor Cleophas Lagat, the county will among other things sue for rape, killings, forced detention and land grabbing.

Khan is expected to lead a team of lawyers in preparing for the case. The lawyers will review available records and will also collect testimonies from the victims.

This new suit against the British government comes a while after another case was lodged against it by Mau Mau survivors.

They are seeking for compensation for among other things, torture and forced detention.

However, an official blanket regret was offered by the British government in 2014 when Mau Mau survivors filed the suit seeking for compensation.

Nandi County believes that with the legal prowess of Khan, the community will be compensated for the atrocities committed.

Khan has become a house-hold name in Kenya since he first represented Ruto and former Ambassador Francis Muthaura in their alleged crimes against humanity at the ICC which they won.

His legal prowess was something  ICC lawyers and Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda had to reckon with at the time the cases were ongoing.

It is believed that Khan’s witty know-how of the law led to suspension of the cases Ruto faced.

He is an expert in International Criminal Law and International Human Rights law.
