May 28 was the official date for the start of campaigns for political parties in the country.

And as the race for various positions continues heating up, Nairobi governorship race has remained in sharp focus.

However, in a new twist of political events, Peter Kenneth who lost in the Jubilee primaries and is vying as an independent candidate, has come under intense pressure and branded as a project for Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero.

Jubilee nominee for Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja on Monday hit out at Kenneth over his independent bid.

He castigated him for not supporting Jubilee nominee for governorship Mike Sonko and instead, went ahead to vie as an independent with the sole motive to lock out a Jubilee governor from winning in the August 8 polls.

“People are saying he [Kenneth] has now become Kidero’s project because what he will do, he will not take ODM’s vote, he will take Jubilee’s vote and split it.

Let us remember the numbers last time what happened with Waititu and Jimnah Mbaru; when you split votes this time and Kidero comes back, it means you are campaigning for Kidero,” charged Sakaja who spoke on Kameme FM.

Kenneth’s independent candidature has sent shockwaves in Jubilee as they fear Sonko could lose to ODM’s Kidero due to split votes between Kenneth and Sonko.

Sakaja added that Kenneth was never in Jubilee and he only cares about his ambitions.

“He never even wore Jubilee’s shirt until the last week. He was not even saying Jubilee or asked for votes for Uhuru. There is nobody who has heard him defend President Uhuru even a single day; it is all about himself.”

However, Kenneth is undeterred and insists he will be in the race on August 8 and that city residents will vote for him.
