Serena Williams plans major tennis event in Kenya

American Tennis Star Serena Williams has announced her plans to hold Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) event in Kenya.

Williams who has visited the country twice-in 2008 and 2010-said Kenya is her favourite African destination.

“Kenya is where I would want the event to take place. It’s one of my favourite places to go, so why not?” she told BBC Sport in an interview.

“It would be so [much] fun – the help that we could do, and the awareness and the athletes and the amazing players that would come out of Africa would just be unbelievable,” she added.

In both visits has made to Kenya, she opened two secondary schools-– Serena Williams Matooni Secondary School and Serena Williams Wee Secondary School in Makueni County.

The elite professional tennis circuit WTA Tour is organized by Women’s Tennis Association (WTA).

Serena is set to make her first WTA Tour appearance since giving birth to her daughter Alexis Olympia. She will participate in the opening round at Indian Wells today.
