One person is feared dead after a tanker ferrying gas exploded following a collision with a trailer along the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway at Chyulu Hills.
The 2am accident reportedly killed one person and injured three others.
The accident caused a massive traffic snarl-up to and from Mombasa prompting police to advice motorists to use alternative routes.
Motorists travelling to Mombasa from Nairobi were advised to use Emali route and take Loitoktok- Taveta Road then head to Voi while those who were travelling to Nairobi from Mombasa were asked to divert at Voi and take Taveta- Loitoktok- Emali road.
Earlier, police had issued an alert over the accident.
“The leaking gas is highly inflammable … persons except emergency service providers are advised to stay clear of the scene,” read the alert according to the Star.
