A Kenyan court has sentenced ten men to death after finding them guilty of murder charges.

They are reported to have beaten and burnt a senior accountant at the department of defense, Elikana Gondi together with his driver Moses Magiri and gardener Simon Gombe in Migori County on April 12, 2013.

The three were attacked and burnt down by an angry mob from Mwanche village in what seemed to be a case of mistaken identity of cattle rustlers.

In his ruling, Justice David Majanja said that throughout the trial, he found testimonies given by 23 witnesses to be compelling enough to hand them a death sentence.

“The savage way the accused inflicted injuries on the deceased leave no doubt that they were inflicted with intent to cause grievous harm or death,” said the Judge.

The ten includes: Joseph Kenya Omweri, Ochieng Ojwang, Kennedy Kisa Omweri, Janes Ogalo Oketch, Odhiambo Majiwa, Julius OtienoDeya, Paul OkoiOdeko, Nicholas Otunga Otieno, Julius Makambo Obade and Daniel Owino Oganyo.

Justice Majanja’s ruling comes in the wake of increased cases of law enforcers losing their lives to organized criminal gangs.

A few months ago, a Kenya Air Force soldier was pounced on and attacked by a matatu crew plying Buruburu route in the heart of Nairobi City.

Andrew Mburu was left with multiple injuries after the brutal attack which has raised a red flag over the safety of the very people who should be protecting civilians.
