By Pharis Kinyua: Jamhuri News

The National Youth Service (NYS) is on the spot yet again after two of its officers who were charged in court last year and suspended for irregular procurement are still in office.

Peter Muritu and Timothy Ndekere, who were members of the NYS Technical Evaluation Committee, were charged on account of failing to undertake a technical evaluation to approve the supply of Sh47.6 million training materials.

They were charged in October 2016 together with S. Mutunga, F.M. Karanja and Regina Mungai all of the committee which awarded the tender to Blue Star Enterprises.

However, The Star reports that eight months later, they are still in office contrary to regulations.

“Timothy Ndekere and Peter Muritu were charged in court in October 2016 but action towards their interdiction is yet to be taken, which is against the regulations.”

The two officers are reported to have enrolled in a management course at the Kenya School of Government in Mombasa.

Still, on NYS, it is alleged that two officers; one stationed that the NYS training college in Gilgil and another at the NYS head office registry section are still working despite attaining retirement age.

Others are Gilgil NYS College Commandant Isaac Ndirangu, Philip Tanui and Albert Too who are still in office, despite officially having been retired from the service.

NYS has been in the eye of a storm since losing sh1.8 billion. The then Devolution CS Ann Waiguru was forced to resign after the saga.

Several top ranking officials in the Ministry including former CS Eng. Peter Mangiti were interdicted and taken to court.

Others charged are business personalities Ben Gethi and Josephine Kabura.

Former NYS Director General Nelson Githinji was also charged alongside former NYS senior deputy director general Adan Harakhe and former chairman of the Ministerial Tender Committee Hassan Noor Hassan
