By Pharis Kinyua

Jubilee government has announced it will provide free health insurance to mothers and their newborn babies for one year if re-elected on August 8.

President Uhuru Kenyatta made the pledge during a rally in Nakuru County on Saturday.

He said they will provide health insurance to all mothers and their newborn babies for a period of one year to create a healthy nation.

“President Mwai Kibaki gave you free primary education. We give you free secondary education from January 2018.

For mothers, after free maternity, we will now provide free National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) insurance for a year for free so the mother and child can remain in robust health,” said the President in Molo.

If this is implemented, it will be a major milestone for the Jubilee government after the free maternity program.

Across the country, the programme has been hailed and is considered to be one of Jubilee’s achievements in the last four years.

Uhuru’s Nakuru tour came as the opposition held a parallel rally at Bukhungu stadium where they unveiled their manifesto.

”Jubilee will continue implementing its manifesto and ensuring that Kenya has proper infrastructural development, quality healthcare, access to education and an environment that is investment friendly.”said Uhuru
