President Uhuru Kenyatta has narrated his horror at the state of Kenya’s largest referral hospital, Kenyatta National Hospital.

The President said he made an incognito visit to the facility where he was shocked at the state of accident and emergency centre at KNH.

Uhuru said it needs a lot of work.

“Most of the pressure requires more accident and emergency centres. You have to get these centres working,” Uhuru told a special team tasked with regenerating Nairobi city at State House on Friday according to Nairobi News.

The special team has representatives from the County Government of Nairobi as well as the National Government.

Governor Mike Sonko together with Tourism CS Najib Balala, co-chair the committee.

Uhuru’s first-hand sight of things at KNH comes months after a litany of complaints from the largest referral hospital in East and Central Africa.

A few weeks ago, the hospital came under sharp scrutiny after it emerged that it lacked crucial life saving machines and had to rely on borrowing from private institutions.

KNH has not had functioning magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan and a laparoscopy tower machine for the last one year.

The hospital does not also have a skin grafting machine. Procedures where surgeons are supposed to use his machine are at times done manually which is painful to the patient and takes time to heal.
