Uhuru warns Nairobi elected leaders against infighting

Jubilee elected leaders from Nairobi County have been urged to avoid squabbles and deliver change which is what Jubilee promised city residents.

President Uhuru Kenyatta made the clarion call on Saturday when he met them at State House.

“Nairobians want to see efficient garbage collection, clean water, better traffic flow. In short, they want to see a rapid and significant improvement in service delivery, “Uhuru told the leaders as quoted by PSC.

He called on the leaders to work as a team so that they can deliver.

“We want to see change in Nairobi, not for the benefit of leaders, and not for the benefit of the few who are able to make it on their own. This should be for the majority who depend on us to change their lives.”

Out of 17 Parliamentary seats in the city, Jubilee won 9 and a further 46 seats for the ward representatives.

He said that while it is a major victory for each of them being elected, they should focus on bettering the lives of their voters else they become victims of mistrust by voters.

“Most of you have been elected for the first time. Don’t allow power to get into your head, I have seen many taking that route.

“Wananchi are our bosses and that’s why we want to change Nairobi for their benefit,” added the President.

Uhuru said that even celebrations by elected leaders should be done with moderation.

“If it is celebration, please be moderate and thereafter start offering services,” he told the Nairobi leaders.

He said that Kenyans watch closely what elected leaders do and they always question if or not they are delivering their promises.
