Leader of Majority in the Senate and Tharaka Nithi Senator Prof Kithure Kindiki has spoken about his bid for Deputy Presidency in 2022.

On Friday during the swearing-in of Tharaka Nithi Governor-elect Muthomi Njuki, Prof Kindiki remarked he will be William Ruto’s running mate in 2022.

“On December 9, 2017, Kenya will be addressed from Mukothima village and this is when we will officially start the journey to State House with Mr Ruto,” he said as quoted by Daily Nation.

The Senator noted the event will be attended by the President, his Deputy and a host of Jubilee politicians.

He opined that Uhuru is ready to hand over the mantle to them [with DP Ruto].

Prof Kindiki also said that the move will have Mount Kenya East clinch the realms of power for the first time.

He vowed he will never seek for election for a county seat but the top positions in the country.

“As I said during my campaign trail, I will not come to you again seeking county leadership since I am headed to Nairobi to fight for State House,” observed the Senator.

County leaders pledged to support his bid.

“We promise that we will not antagonize you here in the county, “said Maara MP Kareke Mbiuki who is eyeing Kindiki’s seat in 2022.

Chuka/Igamba Ngomb’e and Tharaka MPs Patrick Munene and Gitonga Murugara said they will rally their supporters to back Kindiki’s bid.

Kindiki who hails from Tharaka Nithi with over 213,00 registered voters has daunting task ahead of him to consolidate support from the wider Mt Kenya region.

He must demonstrate his capability to deliver a huge number of votes from Central Kenya come 2022.
