When he first thought of politics, it never occurred to him that one day; he will be nominated to vie for an elective seat.

But as fate has it, Joseph Obiri who lives with his wife in Hazina estate would be nominated on an ODM ticket to vie for Nairobi South Ward seat.

When he spoke to KTN, he said that he vied for the seat to give alternative leadership saying current leadership has failed them.

Obiri said he wanted to change how politics is done in the country.

While emphasizing on how politicians give handouts to the poor to allegedly buy their votes, him being elected irrespective of his social status in society, shows that Kenyans want leaders who can walk the talk.

“I decided to join politics after seeing the cry of my people and how politicians were taking advantage of them hence I decided to stand and educate them on the importance of electing someone who stays with them and understands their problems,” he said.

Having operated his kiosk since 2002 and at some point working as a watchman to feed his family, his peers said he possesses all qualities of a leader.

Obiri has vowed to be an example of leadership for the people.
