Job Nalianya, Kenya’s top Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidate in 2012 found a new home in Texas, USA after his sterling performance in the national exams.

Nalianya currently works with a technology firm – Texas Instruments.

In an interview with Citizen TV on Sunday, Nalianya told Waihiga Mwaura that he pursued Electrical Engineering at Stanford University.

From St Peter’s Seminary School in Western Kenya, Nalianya shocked the country with his stellar performance from the not so big school.

He recalled that when he secured admission at Stanford University, he realized that he was only half smart; his coursemates were extremely smart.

It was a big challenge because he had to keep up with the others despite having topped in the national exams.

“I was used to doing really well in school and then I come to the US and pretty much every smart person in the world are at Stanford. So you are competing with everyone who is really doing well,” he stated.

At Texas Instruments, he is an integrated circuits designer and prides on the role he plays in the firm.

“What we do is build chips that go into everyday use electronic devices such as laptops, ipads and phones. I work as an IC (Integrated Circuits) designer so I design the circuits that go into the chip that are used in these electronic devices,” he added.

Headquartered in Dallas, Texas, the firm is a technology giant in the US. Its designs and semiconductors are highly sought after in the electronics global market.
