Governor Ruto to officially join NASA on Tuesday

Firebrand politician from Bomet County Isaac Ruto is set to officially join the opposition on Tuesday, Daily Nation reports.

The Bomet County boss will be welcomed to the NASA ship together with his Chama Cha Mashinani  (CCM) Party which will be accorded equal status ODM, Amani National Congress (ANC), Wiper Movement Party and Ford Kenya.

A source privy to Daily Nation noted: “We are accommodating him (Governor Ruto) on Tuesday (tomorrow). He is coming in at the summit level and will get his full rights as an equal partner in the NASA coalition.”

NASA leaders Raila Odinga, Moses Wetangula, Kalonzo Musyoka and Musalia Mudavadi held a meeting last week where they all agreed to enjoin Ruto to their camp.

To show their commitment to upholding equality for the newly entrant, CCM, Ruto will nominate two members to the Nasa Coordinating Committee and one member to the coalition’s technical team working on the presidential candidate and structure of government.

The Bomet County boss fell out with the Jubilee administration a short while after the 2013 elections.

Since then, he has been a collision course with the ruling administration which escalated to him jumping out to form his own party.

In particular, he has developed bad blood for Deputy President William Ruto whom he has accused of dictatorship and lack of development in the Rift Valley.

He has also accused Jubilee in whole of failing to live up to its 2013 promises. He says that corruption and ethnicity has been Jubilee’s hallmark.

Opposition now expects a rich harvest in the August 8 polls after Ruto joined their camp. CCM is steadily rivaling Jubilee’s dominance in the South Rift where CCM is popular.
