Maina Kamanda links his political downfall to supporting Peter Kenneth’s Nairobi gubernatorial bid

Outgoing Jubilee MP for Starehe Constituency Maina Kamanda has alleged that his political downfall is as a result of supporting Peter Kenneth’s bid for Nairobi Governorship.

Kamanda who spoke to journalists when conceding defeat by singer Charles Njagua Kanyi (jaguar), said that supporting Kenneth cost him his Starehe seat.

He also revealed that some powerful forces whom he declined to name, forced him and other Nairobi MPs to support Kenneth’s bid.

As a result, most of them lost in the Jubilee primaries.

“I was coerced to support Peter Kenneth by forces I will not disclose right now. That issue of Peter Kenneth contributed mainly to the downfall of most candidates in Nairobi,” he said as told by the Star adding that, “but we have buried the hatchet now.”

Kamanda’s win was overturned by Jubilee Party National Elections Board Appeals Tribunal on Wednesday and handed to Jaguar.

The Tribunal in its ruling noted that jaguar adduced compelling evidence of how he was rigged out by Kamanda who was declared the winner by the constituency’s returning officer.

Kamanda has since pledged to support Jaguar.

Kenneth had been touted as a Jubilee project as soon as he announced his candidature for Nairobi governorship.

It was alleged that his comeback to politics was a plot to put him in a good position to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2022.

But he has denied the claims. He also lost to Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko in the Jubilee primaries, but he says he will go as an independent candidate as the nomination process was not credible, fair and transparent.
