Paul Kimani Wamatangi is one of the two incumbent Jubilee Senators-elect from Central Kenya to go back to the Senate.
Tharaka Nithi Senator-elect Prof Kithure Kindiki also made a comeback after a grueling race.
Wamatangi put up a brave show and garnered 727, 092 votes beating his closest challenger, outgoing Ngewa MCA Karungo wa Thang’wa who polled 222, 183 votes.
Thang’wa vied as an independent candidate.
Wamatangi is the second Senator who was voted for overwhelmingly in the whole country after Nairobi’s Johnson Sakaja.
Sakaja managed 817, 388 votes-the highest record of votes for a Senator in the recently concluded polls.
He survived the voters’ axe which saw Governor William Kabogo, outgoing Women Rep Ann Nyokabi and a host of County MPs and MCA sent packing.
In his acceptance speech, the Senator promised to continue his oversight role in the county.
It is believed that his strong and articulate moves to defend Jubilee regime has played a role in his victory.
Prof. Kindiki garnered 118, 618 votes to emerge the winner on a Jubilee ticket. He trounced his rival of the Maendeleo Chap Chap, Francis Kiambi who garnered 53, 341 votes.
All other Mt Kenya Senators were sent packing.
In Kirinyaga, outgoing Daniel Karaba was trounced by independent candidate Charles Kabiru while in Murang’a; former Kiharu MP Irungu Kangata defeated outgoing Kembi Gitura.
In Nyeri, Mutahi Kagwe was succeeded by former Mathira MP Eng Ephraim Maina.
In Embu, the Senator position went to former Cooperative Minister Njeru Ndwiga following Lenny Kivuti’s unsuccessful bid for Embu Governorship.
In Nyandarua, former MP Paul Githiomi made a comeback. He will take over from outgoing Senator Muriuki Karue.
In Laikipia, John Kinyua succeeded the late G.G Kariuki beating Maina Njenga who was vying on a Kanu ticket.
