Kuria raps UK, US, German envoys for “meddling” in Kenyan affairs

Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria has taken a swipe at envoys from the US, UK and Germany over their continued push for dialogue between Kenya’s main political players.

He says this is tantamount to meddling in Kenyan affairs by the diplomats.

Kuria was responding to a publication by a local daily highlighting the role that the three Western countries are playing in their push for talks between President Uhuru Kenyatta and his nemesis Raila Odinga.

The three foreign entities are angling to have the public determine the role that Raila and Kalonzo Musyoka are supposed to play in government as opposed to formation of a government of national unity.

A diplomatic source made this clear stating that, reports Daily Nation “there are no particular roles suggested for Raila and Kalonzo. An agreement on their future should be spearheaded by Kenyans themselves.”

However, Kuria in a jibe via his facebook page on Tuesday wrote: “Dear Germany, UK and USA. Before you bring your long noses here in the name of dualogue (sic) or unity talks, I offer to lead a team to determine the role to be played by election losers Gerhard Shroedder, David Cameron and Hillary Rodham Clinton. I would have called you PUGA if only I know what it means. I only hear the word from some uncivilised boys.”

Raila on Monday confirmed that the diplomats from the three countries met him last week on Friday at his Capitol Hill office; they did not talk of any position he should hold in the current administration.

“They have not gone to the details of what it should be. They only talk of bringing on board more stakeholders,” said Raila

He added: “But I have stated that they are interfering in what is basically a Kenyan affair which should be left to Kenyans to solve.”

“They cannot come to tell us who should be this and that. We are talking about a stolen election and our aim is reforms to bring about electoral justice. We have never talked anything about that.”

US Ambassador to Kenya Robert Godec has however, reiterated that all he is pushing for is a national conversation that will end the stalemate between Uhuru and Raila.

“The US continues to be committed to a national conversation involving all Kenyans to build national unity, address long-standing issues and resolve divisions exacerbated by 2017 elections.”

Jubilee on the other hand is opposed to the dialogue bordering on electoral reforms saying NASA is using the issue to be relevant in the political scene.

“What is the legal basis or the constitutional reference for these talks? There is none, and what these people are trying is to be relevant after losing,” averred Tuju.
